Oh so wrong, in so many ways.. But…  -  Controversy notwithstanding, “Tropic Thunder” will make you laugh. You may cringe from time to time, but it will still make you laugh.

A new action film is being shot in the jungle with Hollywood “sensibilities” and a budget to match. But when egos clash the director loses control, and decides to send his actors (Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black, Brandon T. Jackson) into the jungle to film things guerrilla style. What they don’t know, is they dropped near a drug operation that makes the situation even more real.

Tropic Thunder will offend you, really it will. But is that a bad thing? At its core this is a film that makes fun of the very genre of which it is a part; but that is, of course, funny.

The real hidden gems in this film are the bit parts for Matthew McConaughey and Tom Cruise. I honestly have never laughed so hard at Tom Cruise on screen in a movie. He should do more of this type of thing.

Great performances and a witty script keep things punched up and on edge. While it may step over that edge from time to time, “Tropic Thunder” does make you laugh and ends the summer with a real bang.

Where has the force gone?

I was a mere 7 years old when “Star Wars” hit the big screen. It was a fantastic voyage through an incredible world, with a story that kept me interested. Even the prequels had some enjoyable moments. But now, as “The Clone Wars” bows, could “The Force” be gone for me?

The basic story has the Jedi stretched thin across the galaxy. The clone wars are battering the republic and Anakin is sent into the far reaches as the council wants him to retrieve one of Jabba the Hutt’s young ones.

If you are a fan of the series, I guess you’ll have to be in line to check this out. If you are under 12, you’ll love this film. But for me, this was a real disappointment. “The Clone Wars” lacked the magic of the earlier films. It felt wooden and very cold.

Instead of experiencing the magical fantasy world that once existed, “The Clone Wars” was a simple shell of itself. Oh where has “the force” gone?
